Whistlepig 10 year single barrel rye

Non chill filtered

Nose: Sweet caramel, brown sugar, burnt oak with hints of honey, black cherry and candied apple. More reminiscent of a bourbon then a rye.

Palate: Toasted caramel and oak upfront balance the earthy and spicy rye notes nicely.

Finish: Sweet smokey oak, caramel and a long soft dry finish with a touch of mint and pepper that don't overpower the sweetness but compliments it.

Another first one in Massachusetts!!! LJ whiskey team selected Peerless Bourbon Single barrel back in Oct, 2020 just arrived! As many of you may know that Peerless small batch was selected Best Kentucky Bourbon by American Whiskey Magazine in 2020. It was very hard to find a winner out of 3 barrels we tried at that time as they all had different interesting characteristics.

Barrel date 8-18-16
Proof: will be bottled at barrel proof
Non Chill Filtered

Mash bill: Not disclosed
roughly 70-80% corn the rest rye/barley.
They are one of only few distilleries use SWEET MASH process instead of more commercially common Sour Mash so that master distillery can control consistency.

NOSE: Caramel sweetness with hints of baked goods

PALATE: pie crust and toasted nuts with touch of mint which fades into a hint of sweet oak with a touch of white pepper appearing again on the finish but doesn't linger. Soft finish even at barrel strength.
